COOKED IS CRUSHING ON…
At Cooked, we love supporting local business and celebrate awesome interior design. Here are some of Cape Towns most creative hangout spots and we thought it fitting to credit the interiors of these much-loved locations.
1. KAPA TEE Tea Bar
(7 Church St, Cape Town City Centre, Cape Town, 8000)
We stumbled across Kappa Tee by sheer serendipity one rainy Friday morning and fell head over heels, hardcore. The interior design in this tea bar is perfect – fresh and quirky. We adore their menu display, high ceilings, splashes of blue, bay window seats and uncluttered space. Just Beau –Tea– ful!
2. House of H
(112 Loop St, Cape Town City Centre, Cape Town, 8000)
This fun, casual dining spot is one of our favorites for group dinners. The owner, H has created an awesome space, with handmade tables using recycled wood from the existing space, coupled with quirky seating, an old VW van, well-considered task lighting and hand-painted tiles (painted by his graphic designer wife) are just a few reasons why we love this space. H has also included his own mushroom garden, growing out of the walls, as well an event area in what was once a parking lot underneath the restaurant where he has commissioned local graffiti artists. Everything in House of H’s interior design is totally welcoming and just screams AWESOMENESS.
3. The Vapery
(Shop C, Ground Floor, 221 Long Street, Cape Town City Centre, Cape Town, 8001).
The Vapery, with two existing stores in Pretoria, recently opened its Cape Town doors- and we are besotted with their interior design. Their grunge-meets-industrial look is all things fun. We took a walk through the store with Dru, who chatted me through their design process. All the walls in the store have been layered, stripped and re-layered in paint to give it the unkempt, grungy feel, I-beams and piping have been intentionally painted to represent rusted surfaces and the execution is just excellent.
(Cornerstone House, 16 Loop St, Cape Town City Centre, Cape Town, 8000)
Apart from Shakshouka to die for (it’s phenomenal), we love Giulios’ clean interior design. Their space is understated with elements that make you feel like you’ve stepped onto Mount Olympus. The gorgeous ceiling pendant halos the space, while natural light flows into the space through the huge windows. The chairs on the light stone café floor are a beautiful touch to complete the space.
5. The Mess
(110, The Rockwell All Suite Hotel, 15 Napier St, Green Point, Cape Town, 8001)
There are so many reasons to love the interior design at The Mess. There are loads of fun elements to look at but some of the ones we’ll highlight here include their gorgeous CNC timber “tree”- like structures which clad the support pillars with their Edisson exposed globe pendants, creating a mystical feel. A great contrast comes in with the bright artwork around the pay point/ front desk. The combination of flooring textures adds to the playfulness of the space. Love, love, love.
